Dear Love,

Let’s talk about roots.

In Matthew 22:37–40, Jesus said, “‘Love the Lord your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your mind.’ This is the first and greatest commandment. And the second is like it: ‘Love your neighbor as yourself.’”

Here we can see that everything flows from our love of God. When our hearts and minds are set on God, we can then truly love His sons and daughters well. Our love for Him can be reflected in the love that we give others.

The most important thing that we have to remember is that love isn’t always butterflies. Feelings change, moods change, and days or even years can be unpredictably painful, but love can be a constant in the middle of all the chaos.

God said in His Word, “Love is patient, love is kind. It does not envy, it does not boast, it is not proud. It does not dishonor others, it is not self-seeking, it is not easily angered, it keeps no record of wrongs. Love does not delight in evil but rejoices with the truth. It always protects, always trusts, always hopes, always perseveres” (1 Corinthians 13:4–7 NIV).

That’s God’s definition of love, and I hope to love like He says to do biblically. In modern times, there’s so much media and propaganda that’s anti-love, and not just romantically. There are so many systems in place that inspire division and even self-hate. I pray our brothers and sisters can keep their eyes on God and do not take every single thought of man as the gospel. We should take everything to God in prayer.

Our love should be rooted in God, and the best way to remain rooted in Him is by praying, studying His Word, and placing Him at the head, center, and foundation of everything we are and everything that we do.

Remember where your love comes from, and as always, don’t forget your prayers.

All My Love,

Lisa Ford
