What is Prayer?
December 1, 2025
Let me talk to you for a moment, not as a teacher and not as someone with all the answers, but as a friend who has learned this through experience.
Prayer is not weak.
Prayer is not passive.
Prayer is not a last resort.
Prayer is a weapon.
But it is not a weapon used to control God. It is a weapon God gives us to stand firm in a world that constantly pulls at our faith.

Prayer is how battles are fought before they show up in your life.
It is how fear is confronted.
It is how confusion is quieted.
It is how peace is protected.
Many people think prayer is simply asking God for things. They pray when life feels heavy. They pray when something goes wrong. They pray right before they fall asleep. And God hears those prayers. He truly does.
But prayer was never meant to be limited to moments of crisis or routine.
God desires relationship.
He wants connection. Conversation. Presence.
Some people believe in God but do not actually walk with Him. They check in when they are hurting, but they do not sit with Him when things are good. They call on Him when they need help, but they do not talk to Him about their thoughts, their questions, or their everyday lives.
Prayer is how we stay in conversation with God. It is how we remain aware of Him. It is how we learn to recognize His voice in the middle of all the noise.
This is why prayer is warfare.
When you pray, you are not fighting people. You are fighting lies. You are fighting fear. You are fighting discouragement and isolation. You are resisting the slow drift that pulls hearts away from God without warning.
Prayer keeps you awake.
Prayer keeps you anchored.
Prayer keeps you connected.
God does not want to be treated like a genie in the sky, only called on when something goes wrong. He wants to be part of your life. Your decisions. Your celebrations. Your stillness.
You do not have to pray perfectly. You just have to be honest. You can't hide anything from God.
Prayer is not about impressive words or praying long and loud like some do when they're seasoned in the faith. God wants you to show up as your true self are and let him meet you where.
Trust that he will every single time.
Because he bends down to listen,
will pray as long as I have breath! — Psalm 116:2
A simple prayer:
Lord, I need you. I don't have the words to say, but in your word it says when we are weak and do not know what to pray, we are not alone. The Holy Spirit helps us even when we cannot find the words. So God I pray that you search my heart and hear my cry. Lord, I need you. Lord, I invite you into my situation and ask that you have your way with and my life. In Jesus name, Amen.
